According to UN’s projections, about 70% of the global population will live in cities by 2050. Rapid urbanisation, climate change, impact of human activities on ecosystems, food insecurity, inadequate infrastructure, increased energy demand and social inequalities are some of the challenges where planners can make a difference.

Supported by adequate planning cities can become drivers of a sustainable future. For this reason, the RTPI is engaging with the UN’s Agenda 2030 - which sets 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - with a focus on the achievement SDG11: ‘By 2030, make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable’.
