Stockport Interchange is awarded the Excellence in Planning for a Successful Economy and Silver Jubilee Cup Winner at Royal Town Planning Institute’s (RTPI) Awards for Planning Excellence 2024.
The project, which is the largest transformational regeneration project outside of London, is a £140 million comprehensive mixed-use sustainable redevelopment of an outdated bus station.
Award judges stated that the Stockport Interchange, “ticked all the planning boxes and demonstrated how planning was a tool for delivery and how planners brought the project into being.”
They acknowledged the risk of heritage harm and engaged early on with Historic England and the heritage officer to minimise damage, a testament to the project’s commitment to heritage preservation.
