The winners of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Awards for Planning Excellence 2020 will be announced during an online ceremony on 30 April on YouTube.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the RTPI announced earlier in the week that all its events until 31 August would either be cancelled or postponed, or organized with a different format reflecting latest government guidance.
Excitement has been building for this year’s Awards since the list of finalists was published in February, and the RTPI said it was determined that the event should go ahead, even if it had to be done in a radically different way.
Winners will be now revealed at 1300BST during a Premiere hosted on the RTPI’s YouTube channel. Members are encouraged to subscribe to the channel now and opt in to receive notifications so that they know when the Premiere begins.
The URL of the watch page for the Premiere, where subscribers can interact with comments and in live chat and set a reminder, will also be shared with members soon.
RTPI Chief Executive Victoria Hills said: “Moving to a virtual operation does provide us with some great opportunities to look at the way we do events during this crisis, and I’m really excited that we’ll be revealing the winners of this year’s Awards in a YouTube Premiere.
“Our events team is working around the clock so that we don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate some fantastic shortlisted entries from the UK and around the world.”
The annual Awards for Planning Excellence, now in their 45th year, are the RTPI’s highest profile event for the media in showcasing the positive power of planning to benefit communities socially and economically and protect and enhance our environment.
Finalists this year include a self-build scheme in Glasgow, a modular ‘innovation village’ in Gateshead and a Cambridgeshire cohousing development.
