The RTPI Trust was established in 1994 by five Past Presidents of the RTPI, Michael Welbank, Peter Fidler, Robin Thompson, Chris Shepley and John Dean.

The appointed Trustees are responsible for the Trust’s activities and affairs and act independently from the Institute.

The RTPI Trust is registered with the Charity Commission. Charity no: 1041078.

What does the Trust do?

The Trust's charitable purposes are to:

  • provide support and financial assistance to RTPI members and their families who are in financial hardship. Financial assistance is generally given in the form of one-off grants for specific items of expenditure which the Trustees consider are needed for the welfare of that member and their family.
  • provide one-off bursaries to students who are pursuing a career in town planning, but are facing barriers in undertaking their studies due to financial hardship.
  • fund research into town planning and its social, economic and financial effects on the community which is considered to be for the public benefit.
