Neutral facilitator Support

PAE can offer support and additional value to consultation or community engagement, through acting as neutral facilitators in consultation exercises.

PAE has supported consultation activities for several local authorities by delivering virtual engagement workshops for local groups and residents based in more economically disadvantaged urban locations within the local authority area. We also work with groups who traditionally have not been involved or who are underrepresented in the planning system.

Councils we have worked with include Blackburn with Darwin Borough Council, Leeds City Council, Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, Bristol City Council, and Blackpool Council.

“The PAE support offer provided organisations and individuals with an excellent opportunity to discuss their concerns about the proposals in the Local Plan with independent planning advisors. The workshop events organised and facilitated by the PAE volunteers were run very professionally and they complemented other consultation activity being undertaken by the Council very well”, Planning Officer, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council

Our work with PAE helped us undertake some extra engagement with our communities as part of our process to develop our new Local Plan. Getting genuine and honest feedback from our communities, particularly those who historically do not engage with us on planning issues, has been really important and the independent input of PAE helped facilitate this. The workshops have formed a important part of our wider toolkit for engaging and consulting with our communities and we look forward to continuing to work with PAE as our Local Plan progresses”, Service Manager (Place Planning), Stockport Council

Neighbourhood plannning support

PAE can also provide planning advice to neighbourhood planning groups located in areas of high multiple deprivation.  Perhaps you are supporting a neighbourhood forum that requires assistance with community consultation and engagement or needs some advice with regard to using existing evidence.

For example, PAE has worked with Middlesbrough Borough Council to support their inner-city Gresham Neighbourhood Forum (NF) with preparing a first “Neighbourhood Priorities Statement” (NPS) for its area. Read more about our work with Gresham in this blog
