Freedom to Build? A mid-year review of planning and housing delivery
Join us for this excellent mid-year opportunity to discuss the delivery housing. This event will cater to everyone involved in the delivery of housing, offering viewpoints from both the public and private sector, to provide a holistic understanding of the latest challenges and best practices.
At the time of the event, the implications of the Government’s proposed planning reforms will be clear, and the Labour Government will be nearer its 1-year anniversary, providing a well-timed opportunity to discuss planning in the context of delivering new homes at all scales. This event will not solely focus on national policy changes and case studies but also delve into the regional and local level, highlighting the key challenges and opportunities for the North East.

Matthew is Head of Planning at Hamilton Willis Land & Development, an independent development land consultancy specialising in strategic development land. He is a Chartered Town Planner having obtained his Master’s Degree in Spatial Planning and Development from Cardiff University in 2018. Matthew predominately focuses on the residential sector with experience across the full breadth of project scales including the promotion of new settlements. However, Matthew’s experience extends to commercial, renewable energy and environmental based projects as well. Matthew has a keen interest in Planning Policy and CPD and is contributing to the RTPI’s role in both as part of his role on the RTPI NE Regional Activities Policy Committee.

Chris is Taylor Wimpey’s strategic land lead for the North East of England. He is a Chartered Town Planner having obtained his Degree in Town Planning and Post Graduate Diploma from Newcastle University in 2006 and 2008 respectively. Chris predominately focuses on promoting potential residential development sites through the Local Plan process. Chris has a good range of planning experience having previously worked in social housing, renewable energy and general planning consultancy.

Sophie is a Chartered Town Planner, Full Member of IEMA and Chartered Environmentalist with a mix of public and private sector experience. She has significant experience in the preparation and delivery of major development schemes, including EIA projects. Sophie has worked for developers and private clients, on secondments to Local Authorities, and held a previous position at the Environment Agency. She has worked on a range of major development proposals, including for residential, mixed-use, and infrastructure schemes throughout the North East and beyond. Her current role at Pegasus focuses on providing planning support to a range of clients on complex multi-disciplinary schemes, as lead Planner and/ or lead EIA Co-ordinator, to successfully guide projects through all aspects of the planning process from pre-application through to delivery stage.

Jack co-founded Wild Capital for two reasons; 1. To provide a first class service and a product for developers which wraps around the development program affordably and in time; 2. To lead the industry by example, delivering the highest integrity environmental mitigation schemes at the most competitive rate. In his free time, Jack is a keen birder, runner and cyclist.
