Following a call for member views and recommendations by the Membership & Ethics Committee, updates to the RTPI Code of Professional Conduct came into force on 1st February 2023. Supplementary guidance will also be updated as needed.
The Board of Trustees has agreed to refresh and re-emphasise the five core principles to reflect good practice from the International Ethics Standards Coalition and bench-marking against other professional bodies. The language used has been reviewed to be as simple and clear as possible so that it is understandable to all, including members of the public. Most clauses have been revised to reflect changing practice and cases that have come before the RTPI Conduct & Discipline Panel. The key requirement for members to annually review their skills with a Professional Development Plan and complete and record 50 hours of CPD over a two-year period will remain unchanged.
