Wales Young Planner of the Year Award

RTPI Cymru Welsh Young Planner of the Year celebrates the talent of early career planners in Wales

The award seeks out the brightest RTPI members in the early stages of their careers. In recognising and rewarding excellence we aim to inspire others to achieve the same high standards. Candidates can work in any area of the industry.

The winner of the 2024 Wales Young Planner of the Year is Nia Roberts.

Nia Roberts with 2024 RTPI Cymru Chair, Allan Archer

Nia is a Planner at Arup, working on a range of projects including leisure schemes, flood risk management schemes and infrastructure projects across Wales and England. Nia completed her MSc in Spatial Planning and Development in 2020 and became a chartered planner in 2022. She has also volunteered for Planning Aid Wales since 2019, where she enjoys helping individuals, small businesses or charities needing advice on matters including responding to planning applications.

The judging panel said

An outstanding submission. Nia clearly has a depth of knowledge across various planning sectors and has had varied experience, working with WG, LAs, private clients etc. Nia undertakes a huge amount of extra curricula activity (ACE, RTPI, RTPI junior APC mentoring, Planning Aid Wales), which is inspiring and admirable. Well done".
