RTPI Cymru Young Planner of the Year

WINNER: KATE COVENTRY

Kate has engaged in both the English and Welsh planning systems throughout her planning career and as a Chartered Planner. The majority of her work is through promotion of land and working on strategic planning applications and appeals. She also has a passion to aid in the provision of affordable housing, which was the focus of her Master’s dissertation. Kate is an active member of Young Planners Cymru through her role representing Wales at the national chair meetings and as past Chair. She has organised and hosted a series of CPD and social events to engage Young Planners across Wales.

The judging panel said "Kate is a worthy role model for aspiring young planners, a demonstrable commitment, enthusiasm and enjoyment towards planning is clearly articulated, together with an admirable appetite for further learning and development. Kate should be applauded for her commitment towards her professional development and involvement with professional institutes".

"I am extremely pleased to have been named the Wales Young Planner of the Year. The regional Young Planner groups are vital in the progression of young persons in our industry and to meet people across both public and private sectors. I am lucky to work for a company who always helps provide every opportunity they can for their younger staff. I believe it is incredibly important for the most experienced planners to seek ways to aid in the early year progression of young planners. The past couple of years working remotely has been difficult for those in the early stages of their careers and I look forward to continuing to work with Young Planners Cymru to organise and host both in person and online events."
