Winner: AL21 land west of Windsor stakeholder masterplan entered by Wates Developments in partnership with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead
Wates Developments worked in partnership with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead engage extensively
and innovatively to prepare the first Stakeholder Masterplan document within the newly adopted Borough Local Plan. This new requirement for the local authority saw Wates Developments work with the Borough to engage with stakeholders more intensively and at a much earlier stage than would normally be the case for such planning applications. It shows that more thoughtfully prepared schemes can deliver better outcomes for, and greater positive engagement with, the communities in which they are proposed.
This stakeholder masterplan is considered an exemplar of contemporary participative approaches to community engagement which align stakeholders and improve developments and planning proposals through participative approach to community engagement. The judges were impressed with stakeholder engagement and community participation which is at the forefront of issues in plan making practice and this approach demonstrates that effort in this area can lead to social and environmental dividends.
