Winner: Amy Powell
Amy is currently a Senior Planner at Edgars, having graduated from the first cohort of students to study the Masters level degree apprenticeship at London South Bank University.
The judges were impressed by Amy’s passion, ambition and contribution to the future of the profession. In particular, they noted that Amy is a strong role model for the Degree Apprenticeship, including taking part in seminars and interviews to promote this route into the profession.
Amy said " I’m incredibly proud to have got to this milestone in my career, and for being one of two apprentices to become chartered members of the RTPI through the apprenticeship scheme. I cannot extoll the virtues of the apprenticeship enough; the combination of working and studying develops all the knowledge, skills and behaviors required of a professional planner, alongside working with other local authority and private consultancy planners through the degree course. These shared experiences are the fundamental building blocks for developing a career in town planning through providing insights into different topics and allowing you to develop your interests within the discipline.
The support from my employers – Edgars Limited, has been instrumental in my success and supporting me through the degree course and in preparing for my APC submission alongside that from London South Bank University and the RTPI. The combined resources provide an apprentice everything they need to build a success career in the industry.
I am looking forward to celebrating other apprentices’ achievements in the future and inspiring others to embark on this route into the profession."
