Halifax Arts Centre renovation triumphs at 2019 RTPI Yorkshire Awards
A major renovation to two nationally important buildings in Halifax has won this year’s prestigious RTPI Yorkshire Awards for Planning Excellence. The extension and refurbishment of Square Chapel Arts Centre by Evans Vettori architects scooped the top prize at the awards evening, held in York this week and attended by more than 130 built-environment professionals.
Square Chapel Arts Centre sits between two important Listed Buildings: Square Chapel and The Piece Hall in the heart of Halifax. The thriving arts centre links the two buildings together and has reordered the original building - adding a flexible studio space, a café/bar and box office, improved back-of-house facilities, and a generous entrance foyer leading directly into the Piece Hall. The extension has enabled Square Chapel to greatly increase their range of activities.
