We are a diverse group of built environment professionals based in Gloucestershire. We’re forming a steering group to provide networking, career support and CPD opportunities for young planners in our area.
Our events will likely be a mixture of in person and online and we hope to host some of these alongside other property and planning professionals from across the South West.
We cover Gloucester, Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, Stroud, the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds. If you are from any of these areas and you are starting out on your planning journey or you completed your planning degree less than 10 years ago and would like to get involved, please get in touch. We welcome anyone studying or working in planning (in public or private practice).
We look forward to meeting you at an event soon. If you are interested in getting more involved with event planning and representing the needs of Young Planners in the area then please get in touch via [email protected]

Elizabeth Shield
Joint Chair
Liz is co-chair of the recently formed Gloucestershire young planners. She took an unconventional route into planning having trained and qualified as a planning and environmental lawyer in private practice after completing her law degree at the University of Leeds.
In 2018 Liz completed her postgrad urban planning course with UWE whilst working for a local planning consultancy. After a short period working back in a law firm, Liz returned to planning consultancy in 2023, primarily focusing on strategic planning. She currently works at SF Planning at their Gloucester office. Liz enjoys it when planning gets really technical, she loves problem solving and finding interesting solutions to her clients’ issues.
Most networking events for planning and property professionals in Cheltenham and Gloucester are held in the evenings when Liz is usually putting her daughter to bed. Part of Liz’s motivation for joining the young planners’ group is that Liz wanted to hold fun and interesting events which were inclusive for working parents who may find it hard to attend events outside of school hours but still want to network and advance their careers in the same way as she does. Liz really enjoys working with RTPI young planners and helping to organise some great events in Gloucestershire which are accessible to as many people as possible.
