Gateshead Examplar Neighbourhood SPD submitted by IDPartnership

Gateshead Exemplar Neighbourhood SPD entered by IDPartnership NorthernGateshead Exemplar Neighborhood SPD is the culmination of a collaborative and bespoke process that has involved a wide range of digital engagement  techniques alongside a range of innovative face to interactive workshops. The masterplan which underpins has been heavily influenced by a broad range of groups and individuals with over 1000 participants including teenager's, local schools, local Councillors, Council Officers, community groups, Gateshead Youth Council and Gateshead Town Centre Board to name but a few. The SPD will be used to guide long term change to create a high quality urban neighborhood with housing for all ages which addresses climate.

Hugh Daglish BA (Hons) MTP MRTPI, Partner at ID Partnership said;

“ID Partnership entered the RTPI awards as they recognise excellence in planning and help showcase the skills, work and ability of ID Partnership working in partnership with clients to achieve good quality placemaking.

The awards are well known in the North East and nationally with an audience which extends beyond town planners to include architects, local authorities, developer, RSLs and other development related businesses.

The opportunity to showcase the work of ID Partnership amongst fellow peers in the development and construction industry is very important to IDP and provides the opportunity to demonstrate a strong commitment to improving neighbourhoods and delivering sustainable, inclusive and well considered places.  It highlights to clients the importance and emphasis that organisations such as the RTPI place on these elements.

ID Partnership has won previous RTPI awards and has benefited from the positive publicity and recognition this has brought.  The practice hopes to encourage and inspire future generations of planners and built environment professionals to work with local communities to achieve quality outcomes and our award for the Exemplar Neighbourhood SPD epitomises this in respect of the engagement work with younger people about the places the want to live and spend time in.”

Best Project

Morpeth Leisure Centre entered by DPP Planning

Morpeth Leisure Centre is a sophisticated example of how well-designed, co-located facilities can strengthen and champion diversity and inclusion within a local community. Joint clients Northumberland County Council and Advance Northumberland alongside DPP and the project team worked to develop a new typology of public sector building, incorporating sport and leisure with community facilities, creating a new heart in Morpeth. Designed pre-covid, delivered during lockdowns and through resultant supply chain issues and an impending recession, the delivery of this highly successful scheme is testament to how a strong planning strategy, effective public consultation and collaboration can yield exceptional results.

Best Project - Commended

Stephenson Building, Newcastle University submitted by ELG Planning, NORR and Newcastle University

The Stephenson Building at Newcastle University is an exemplar renovation and remodel project with sustainability at its core. It has turned the existing 1950s building ‘inside out’ by transforming an inward focused, cellular and traditional academic building into an outward facing and collaborative Hub for Engineering, centred around collaboration and a vibrant atrium space. It has been designed to be the catalyst for collaboration, transformational teaching experience, student, staff and visitor experience and to showcase the world-leading research being conducted on campus.

Director of ELG Jeremy Good said:

"we are delighted that the practice has been once again recognised for its work by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), and these awards build on previous success for North East Best Project an award we last won for our work at Wynyard Hall and our nomination for planning consultancy of the year as the national awards"

Project Darlington, the Darlington Yards Project submitted by ELG Planning , Darlington Borough Council and Nicky Peacock

Darlington Borough Council in partnership with building owners has transformed the town’s yards and wynds through a range of planned works. Upgraded shop fronts, a living green wall, decorative lighting, benches, pots, planters and artwork have been carried out as part of the Council’s Towns Fund. Project Darlington has revitalised the yards, the 'hidden gems' that make Darlington town centre unique driving town centre footfall and helping regenerate the conservation area. Investing in our heritage assets like the historic yards and wynds is a key part of the vision to regenerate the town centre.

Nicky Peacock said

"We are honoured to receive this award from an esteemed organisation such as the RTPI.

Eschewing a traditional approach, Darlington Council commissioned a contemporary artist to create a design strategy that reimagined the characterful nature of the historic yards and wynds.

Tenacity, teamwork, and trust between Local Authority, Planners, and Designer, were integral to the success of this unique scheme and we are delighted to win Best in Region."
