The ride will be held on Friday 6 June and will take a scenic route through Cheshire. We already have an excellent take up of RTPI Members as well as non-members. Please note that friends and colleagues from other related professions are also welcome to join us. We are keen to ensure the Bike Ride is an inclusive event which can be enjoyed by riders of all levels so we are again offering two different linked routes this year:
Start / Finish + Timings
The Ride will start from the Black Swan (550 Manchester Rd, Rixton, Warrington WA3 6LA) at 11.00am for a 11.30 start.
There will be Coffee and snacks available from 11am. We are aiming to finish the ride at 4.30pm at the Black Swan where there will be food available.
Route(s)
There are 2 routes for the day. The Long (97km) and short (55km) routes. Both start and finished in the same place with the first 12km and the last 20km of the routes (home from Tatton Park) being together.
Long
The long route sets off from the Black Swan and crosses the Manchester Ship Canal and then over to Acton Bridge (25km) then through Delamere Forest and down to Little Budworth for a stop at the Egerton Arms near Oulton Park (48km). The Egerton Arms has a new village shop and café for those in need of cake and a coffee…. or a bar for those a little thirstier!
The route then heads back via Davenham and then Knutsford for a stop at Tatton Park (76km) for another coffee and cake for those who need some extra fuel. We’ll then head back to the Black Swan for tea and a well-earned drink!
Short
The short route sets off from the Black Swan and crosses the Manchester Ship Canal (with the long route) and then peeling off to Comberbach (20km) then turn left to Pickmere and then on to Knutsford and Tatton Park (35km) for some coffee and cake for those who need some extra fuel. For those preferring a longer break you can wait for the cyclists on the long route and head back with them back to the Black Swan for tea and a well-earned drink!
Event Notes
Detailed event notes and safety information will be circulated prior to the event.
The event is self-guided and you are expected to bring what you need to complete the route. There will be plenty of riders with cycle computers so navigation will be straightforward. There will be plenty of stops through the day but you will need to purchase your own refreshments at those stops.
There will be snacks and water at the start and tea available at the end of the ride. However, you should bring what you need in terms of fuel and water for the day.
There is no support vehicle, so please carry spares and a pump. Bev Watson is on hand to pick anyone up should there be any catastrophic failure but, in general please treat the ride as if you are expecting to finish it under your own stream.
BOOKINGS CLOSE: Friday 30 May 2025
If you are unable to join as a rider, you are very welcome to join Bev and help us on the day. Interested? Please contact Bev Watson for more information.
