Event Description

As one of the hot topics in planning since the introduction of a mandatory 10% net gain requirement on 12 February 2024, we are taking the opportunity to focus on biodiversity net gain for one of our 2025 LPA Engage CPD sessions.

Just over one year since its inception, we will hear from selected speakers across sub-topics such as development management and policy, securing mechanisms for Biodiversity Net Gain, and creating and managing habitat banks, as well as interactive sessions including small group workshops, and a panel on monitoring and enforcement.

Programme:

  • Chaired by: Melanie Craven & Nick Leslie (Stockport Council)
  • BNG one year in - an LPA perspective on policy, validation, and on-site and off-site delivery of habitats: Ayla Thompson (Wirral Council)
  • Securing BNG - S106, conservation covenants and conditions: Nicky Folan (Wirral Council)
  • Challenges of open mosaic and how to maximise benefits: Rachael Rhodes (MEAS)
  • Panel discussion: The role of monitoring and enforcement in securing net gains in the long-term: chaired by Joe Gough (WSP), with panelists Christine Clapworthy (GMEU) and Dave Westhead (Stockport Council)
  • Habitat Banks - how to set them up and where to target units: Krista Patrick (GMCA) and Nick Leslie / Tim Body (Stockport Council)
  • Afternoon Group Workshop - A review of case studies: Facilitated by Derek Richardson (GMEU) and Joe Gough (WSP)
