In August 2023 Glasgow City Council approved an innovative new Vision and Plan for the City Centre's iconic 'Golden Z'. The Vision was the culmination of a 9 month project, during which the Council and a consultant team, including Stantec (UK), Threesixty Architecture, and Kevin Murray Associates, engaged city stakeholders in a collaborative effort to reimagine the future of the city centre’s retail core.

The project, overseen by the Glasgow City Centre Task Force and funded by the Scottish Government's City Centre Recovery Fund, sought to establish a shared and renewed regeneration direction for the Golden Z that addressed its post-Covid socio-economic and spatial challenges, following contraction in retail floorspace, environmental blight from prominent building fires, and post-covid changes in property markets and consumer behaviour.

The new Vision and Plan identifies key priorities for intervention and investment by both the public and private sectors, to stimulate economic recovery and support longer-term economic, social, and environmental resilience.

The Vision project was informed by the ‘Real Estate, Place Adaptation and Innovation within an integrated Retailing system’ (REPAIR) research project led by Dr Allison Orr of Glasgow University.

Join us to hear about the key elements of Glasgow’s Vision and Plan for the Golden Z, recommendations of the REPAIR research and how they are shaping Glasgow city centre’s regeneration progress.
