Join RTPI West Midlands Young Planners for a discussion with experts in energy planning to understand the context of energy projects within the UK planning system, the importance of decarbonisation, and hear case studies from the Great Grid Upgrade Partnership with National Grid and solar projects helping to meet net zero.

Learning outcomes

The presentation will include an overview of the current electricity transmission network in the UK, why we need more energy infrastructure and the importance of decarbonisation. We will learn what this means for the number of Development Consent Orders required.

We will also cover project examples, including from National Grid led projects and from solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.

We will be joined by:

  • Jared Boyle – Senior Town Planner, Arup
  • Ali Leeder – Technical Director, Major Infrastructure Projects, Arup

Programme 

  • 5:30pm – Registration and networking with refreshments

  • 6:00pm – Presentation with discussion and Q&A

  • 7:30pm – Close

 

Accessibility
• The venue is 15 walk away from New Street Station and 10 minuet walk from Snowhill Station
• There are serval car parks around the venue
• The venue is accessible by taxi but not completely to the front door. If been dropped off my taxi there is usually around a 5 minuet walk from the nearest drop off point Please check arrangements before you travel as there is ongoing road works around the venue which may limit access to the roads around the venue. 
• The venue is a brand new building and is fully accessible with each floor accessible via lifts. Each floor has accessible facilities. There is also access to a quiet wellbeing room if needed.
