The decarbonisation of development projects is essential to address climate change. Join us for an insightful presentation on the importance of robust consideration of Whole Life Carbon (WLC) through the planning process to mitigate against climate change, drive more sustainable practices and build a more resilient future.

We will explore carbon in the planning context, what is being done to drive improved carbon performance, how to assess WLC and how it is being used to inform the decision-making process, using the City of London Corporation (CoLC) as a case study of how they have embedded carbon consideration. The CoLC has adopted a Climate Action Strategy (CAS), with several Net Zero and climate resilience commitments.

To support in achieving the CoLC’s Net Zero for the Square Mile by 2040 commitment, one initiative is the provision of planning guidance (Planning Advice Note – Carbon Options Guidance) to ensure all new major developments meet Net Zero requirements. Arcadis supports the CoLC as an independent third-party reviewer to help ensure the options have been ‘designed, calculated and evaluated realistically and consistently’ and to inform the decision-making process.
