Research Description
When neighbourhood planning was first introduced by the Coalition Government in the Localism Act 2011, rhetoric promised a decentralisation of power to the local level and a new relationship between central government, local government, communities and individuals; with LPAs to adopt a more 'facilitative' role in many policy areas including neighbourhood planning. This thesis explores the response of the LPAs to the localism agenda, with particular focus on neighbourhood planning as a site and practice of actually existing localism with a geographical focus on the SE of England.
