We welcome the opportunity to respond to the Draft London Plan consultation. The London Plan is important to our members as the most developed regional spatial strategy but also because it impacts beyond the boundary of the Greater London. That's why, as part of producing this response we have consulted with a wide range of our members in London, the South-East and the East of England. We support many aspects of the plan and especially its aspirational nature.
We especially welcome the ‘Good Growth’ approach to planning for growth, focusing on health, quality of life, and reducing inequality. The RTPI firmly supports the idea that place-based approaches are crucial to tackling these issues, as described in our policy paper Poverty, Place and Inequality. RTPI research on the Value of Planning has demonstrated the ability of planning to help meet these ends, and to deliver ‘good growth’.
