RTPI response to NICE draft guidance on Air Pollution

The NICE guidance on air pollution includes recommendations on planning, development management, clean air zones, reducing emissions from public sector transport services and vehicle fleets, smooth driving and speed reduction, walking and cycling, and awareness raising.

The RTPI's response welcomes guidance that strengthens the links between public health, environmental health and planning to address issues for development. The RTPI has been calling for an integrated approach to public health issues at local level for example in our publication Promoting Healthy Cities. It warns however, that the recommendations would take time and expertise to implement for planning departments that are under pressure.
