International contacts

RTPI is an active member of seven international organisations:

  1. The Global Planners Network
  2. The World Urban Campaign
  3. The Commonwealth Association of Planners
  4. The European Council of Spatial Planners (ECTP-CEU)
  5. The International Federation of Housing and Planning
  6. The United Kingdom Built Environment Advisory Group
  7. The Global Alliance for Urban Crises.

We also maintains good relations with many others: see our introduction to Planning Organisations around the world for an introduction to all the main players and a handy one-page list you can download.

There are international links throughout the Institute: Governance, Membership, Subscriptions, Education and Careers, Policy, Research, Practice, Nations and Regions and Marketing and Communications.

RTPI Young Planners contribute to the regular European Young Planners Professional workshops organised by ECTP-CEU. Previous themes included: Spatial Planning and Energy (2013-2014) - see YP blog and City Governance and Planning in times of Austerity and Cuts (2015 - 2016) - see: e-book Cities Without Public Funds  available on the ECTP-CEU website.

The photo above shows RTPI Young Planners from RTPI London Region and from University College Cork (an RTPI accredited university) at the European Uunion Committee of the Regions when they presented their work in May 2014.

The main RTPI committee which keeps track of these international connections is the International Committee. This work is co-ordinated by the RTPI International Policy and Research Officer.
