This is a unique opportunity to visit the The Severnside Energy Recovery Centre (SERC) which operates in South Gloucestershire. The plant has a consented capacity of 400,000 tonnes a year, and exports approximately 34 megawhatt hours of electricity. £244 million has been invested in new infrastructure including the new energy-from-waste facility, a new mainline rail connection and sidings, electrical grid connection and incinerator bottom ash processing facility.
The tour would allow you to see all stages of operation, from waste imported into the site through to the incineration processes. In addition, there will be an introduction and questions and answers session by SUEZ’s Head of Planning and Property (Southern area). This is a great opportunity for those interested in energy and waste projects to see an EfW site in action, and understand how consent was granted on this complex and challenging site. For those not in the energy and waste sector, it’s a fascinating chance to see how household waste is dealt with, and the challenges associated with obtaining consent.
