The RTPI has launched two new free online learning tools to help planners better understand the convergence of spatial data and technology in improving planning practice, as well as the role of planning in developing the technology sector.
The first, What is a smart city?, introduces learners to two core concepts: Internet of Things and Smart Cities, and how they can help planners work more efficiently and add value to the decision making process.
The second module, Digital Economy and Town Planning, helps planners understand more about the location choices of the sector, and what they can do practically to encourage growth in their local area.
The Institute has recently published two documents that argue that planning is crucial to ensuring both the conditions are in place for the technology and Advanced Manufacturing sectors to flourish, and that their growth benefits the city as a whole. Read them here.
